| Resumo | The application of Software Analytics (SA) in software development has become increasingly popular in the last years. Taking into account a growing complexity of the software projects, the idea of analytics is to leverage potentially large amounts of data into real and actionable insights. Due to huge amount of data generated during the life cycle of software, there is a lot of information that can be extracted in order to improve decision making for a software in its constant evolution. The decisions based on software data provide important information for supporting projects monitoring, enabling practitioners (e.g., developers, testers, usability engineers, and managers) to improve efficiency, managing risk, anticipating changes, as well as evaluating earlier decisions. Nevertheless, one of the greatest challenges is on how to turn these data into basis real and actionable for the strategic decision making. For assist those who make critical decisions in software projects, more studies in-depth are needed to provide not only appropriate techniques and tools, but also to identify which information they need. Our goal has been to investigate the current trends in the use of SA for decision-making in software development environment, and also to identify research gaps in the existing literature. For that purpose, we conducted a systematic mapping study (SMS) which allowed us to gather, categorize and map the existing studies around SA concepts, tools, and techniques. In our SMS, we selected thirty-two studies published between 2009 and 2016. We analyzed and categorized these studies according to the type of contribution distributed per software area, type of research over time, and type of research method employed. These findings provided an overview of the existing research on SA that will allow us to plan and develop future works in this research field. | |||
